Bing & Grondahl - Bertel Thorvaldsen - Figure - The sculptor leaning on Hope - Porcelain

A superb, large and heavy biscuit porcelain sculpture depicting Bertel Thorvaldsen himself leaning on the statue of Hope that he has been carving, measuring circa 37,5cm in height and weighing 4542g. After the 1819 original by Thorvaldsen, executed by Bing & Grondahl circa 1870. Thorvaldsen was one of the most influential European sculptors of his time.

Condition: Hammer and chisel missing, chip to the square base, no further damages or repairs observed. Minor wear commensurate with age.
