First edition, and first printing of this beautifully illustrated work. This journey by the Trans-Siberian Railway went to Manchuria, Korea and through Siberia into Turkestan. Kemp wanted to investigate the state of these countries after the Russo-Japanese war. She also visited Tashkent, Samarkand and Bokhara.
Illustrated with Fold-out colour map of Central Asia, 2 figures in text, and 24 colour plates, including tissue-guarded frontispiece, by the author (Emily Georgiana Kemp (1860 - 1939) was a British adventurer, artist and writer from a wealthy Baptist industrialist family, and one of the first students to at Somerville College, Oxford. She travelled widely in China, Korea, India, Central Asia and the Amazon)
Published by Chatto and Windus, London, 1910. Publisher’s original green cloth boards, upper board with gilt vignette, and titles in black. Spine lettered in gilt. Top edges gilt.

External covers are faded at edges, and with light wear to corners, and minor rubbings to head and foot of spine. Internally the book is in good condition. No names or inscriptions. Pages are clean, and unmarked. The text is fresh. The plates in nice condition, and the folding map is complete and in fine condition (Please see pictures).
