Thomas Whately, a surgeon of the Royal College of Surgeons in London, presents detailed case studies of acute and chronic eye disease, with emphasis on bleeding, topical astringents, and clinical observation.

Dedicated to Dr. John Sims, M.D., F.R.S., this work is among the earliest independent English publications focused exclusively on ophthalmic inflammation — preceding the establishment of Moorfields Eye Hospital.
