George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton - Multiple artists - 3-lp Bangla Desh box plus Cloud nine, mint - LP - 1st Pressing - 1971

The death of George confirmed that there really was no chance ever of a Beatles reunion. The qiuiet one always lived in the shadow of John and Paul, but was a tremendous songwriter too (is there any better love song than Something?). On offer here one of his first and last solo albums.

1. The triple album Concert for Bangla Desh (1971) has historic meaning, as it was the first outing of George after the split, and more importantly, the first of many charity supergigs. Although it raised only 250.000 at first it ended with a total of twelve million.

This box is an oldie and it shows. But no fear, the records inside are still as new. It has the very first and original brownish inner sleeves and of course the 64-page record-sized book. Check the pictures. But beware: The fading is not so extreme as the pics show.

Close friend Ravi Shankar, of Bangladeshi origin, approached George for help with the devastating hunger, and the humanitarian was immediately in. He called his biggest mates, Eric Clapton, Billy Preston, Klaus Voorman, session-greats Jim Keltner and Jessie Ed Davies, and, after long discussions, Dylan.

Bobs involvement remained unsure until he appeared onstage. He had not played live in five years. Still, he did not turn out to be the biggest problem. That was the heavily addicted Clapton. You seldom see his face in the movie.

The records came out three months later and were an instant success and won many prices. They also introduced Indian raga-music to the big audience. Funny detail: Shankar got a massive applause after his first minutes of music. ,,Since you like the tuning so much, I hope you will enjoy the music too”, he mumbled.

The one of offer is not mint. At least: the box shows its age. It was made of soft carton, hardly any withstood the teeth of time. On the inside, everything is A-Oke. Scratchless vinyl, tearless inner sleeves, a beautiful preserved 64-page endless photobook. The records stem from the time when they knew how to make things, they weigh far more than modern albums, feels like 180 grams.,

2. Also on offer: Cloud Nine, 11th and last solo-album of George. He recorded it after a five year breakand the single ‘Got my mind set on you’ put him right back in business. All his friends contributed: Jeff Lynn, Elton, Clapton, Ringo, Gary Wright and many others. He enjoyed the company so much that he followed it with the Travellin’ Wilbury project.
This record is absolutely mint, hardly played and always well protected. It comes with a new protective sleeve.
