Description from the seller
MAGNIFICENT 5-PIECE COFFEE/TEA SET WITH TRAY
Elegant tableware with a classic design, featuring a tray attributed to the prestigious Spanish silversmith Pedro Durán.
This splendid set comprises two coffee/tea pots, a sugar bowl, a milk jug, and a large tray with handles.
It is an ideal set for both collectors and for elevating any table setting.
Piece Details
Origin:
*The tray is of Spanish origin and is marked "M ALPACA" next to a hallmark in a square, indicating its Madrid (M) origin. Based on its quality, the hallmark in the square, style, and period, it is attributed to the prestigious silversmith Pedro Durán or a contemporary maker from the same school.
*Service (Tea Pots, Sugar Bowl, and Milk Jug): Probably of English or European manufacture with English influence. Silver-plated alpaca (EPNS - the mark is found only on the larger, medium-sized teapot). This E.P.N.S. mark is common on high-quality British and European pieces from this period.
Estimated Period: 1880-1920; Late 19th to early 20th century.
Style: (Classic/Traditional) Late Victorian/Edwardian with period ornamental elements, decorated handles, and finials on the lids.
Material:
*Serving Set: Silver-plated alpaca (E.P.N.S.). The initials, which are stamped on the medium-sized teapot, guarantee a quality silver plating over the base metal (alpaca).
*Tray: High-quality silver-plated alpaca ("M Alpaca").
Technique: Teapot handles: Made of ebonized wood or black bakelite, designed for thermal insulation. Ornate handles, bulbous bodies, finials on the lid and edges of the tray decorated with pearls
-Dimensions:
*Tray: Total length: 47.3 cm; Width: 28.1 cm;
*Large Teapot (H25.5 cm); Length (Handle to spout): 26 cm; Length (most bulbous part of the body): 12 cm
*Medium Teapot (H22 cm); Length (Handle to spout): 26.5 cm; Length (most bulbous part of the body): 13 cm
*Sugar Bowl: Total height: 11.5 cm; Length (handle to handle): 16 cm; Width (mouth): 8 cm;
*Milk/Cream Jug: Total height: 12 cm; Length (handle to spout): 15 cm; Width (mouth): 7.5 cm; (more measurements in the photos)
-Condition and Patina: Very good overall condition considering its age. The pieces retain a remarkable shine and a natural patina in the raised areas. The only noticeable imperfection is a slight inward dent in the body of the larger coffee pot, barely visible, which does not affect the stability or functionality of the set. It should also be noted that the teapots require professional cleaning indoors. Please see all the photos; you will find many more details about this magnificent silver-plated alpaca set.
