Description from the seller
Forged Bronze Paperweight “Sentoku” 鍛造文鎮「宣徳」(たんぞうぶんちん せんとく)
– Eishunsai 栄俊斎(えいしゅんさい)with tomobako
This paperweight was crafted for use in calligraphy and writing, serving to keep paper steady and prevent it from lifting or shifting during work. In Japan, calligraphy is taught from a young age, and students traditionally acquire their own set of tools, including brushes, inkstones, and a paperweight.
While many shapes and styles of paperweights exist, this piece stands out for its elegant simplicity. One surface features the hammered-metal technique tsuiki, creating a refined and subtle texture characteristic of skilled metalwork. Made from bronze, it combines the beauty of traditional craftsmanship with functional design.
