The Death of D. Inês de Castro
2025
Miguel Augusto Brito
Includes a certificate of authenticity.
This work was inspired by the tragedy of Inês D. Castro, a love story between D. Pedro and D. Inês de Castro, which culminated in her murder in 1355 by order of King D. Afonso IV, to prevent Castilian influence at the court. After becoming king, D. Pedro I avenged her killers, ordered her funeral with queenly honors, and commissioned tombs for both at the Alcobaça Monastery.
Augusto, the name he signs his works with, is a young Portuguese contemporary painter who emerged on the artistic scene with a singular and unmistakable voice.
He participated in two group exhibitions in New York at the Van der Plas Gallery, at Livraria Verney in Oeiras, and at the Municipal Gallery of Torres Vedras. He has exhibited at art fairs such as the Lisbon Art Fair and Feriarte Marbella. Currently, some of his works are represented by São Rafael Galleries. He is a full-time visual artist and has successfully obtained buyers for his works in Portugal, Europe, and the United States of America, thus having works in public and private collections.
The work will be shipped in a transport tube. It must subsequently be mounted on the frame.
