All vols. in matching binding of full self-patterned brown cloth; plain borders blind-stamped to front & rear boards; illus. blocked in gilt (bright) to front boards; titling/plain borders/illus. blocked in gilt (slightly dulled) to spines of Vols. I/II and titling/plain border blocked in gilt (slightly dulled) to vol. III; pale yellow endpapers.
Vol. I - xxix+[i]+444pp.; illus. bw. drawings/engravings (very slightly sunned spine slightly worn at top/tail; boards rubbed at corners, but clean/bright; page edges slightly tanned; front hinge barely holding; heavy browning (residue from removed sellotape) to contents pages at inner margins; some collations loose/loosening, but textually all complete; text fresh, pages clean/bright/quite crisp);
Vol. II - xxxv+[i]+483pp.; illus. bw. drawings/engravings (very slightly sunned spine lightly worn at top/tail, but clean; boards rubbed/slightly bumped at top corners, but clean/bright; rear joint slightly worn at tail; page edges slightly tanned; front free-endpaper slightly soiled soiled (glue-marks from removed bookplate); text fresh, pages clean/crisp/bright; binding secure, all complete/intact);
Vol. III: 'Supplement - Index and Plates' - xi+[i]+ Plates (including fold-out) in bw./col. + 37pp. Index (spine worn at top/tail, but clean/quite bright; joints slightly worn; boards rubbed at corners, but quite clean/bright; page edges slightly tanned; split to rear hinge, but binding holding; sellotape and old sellotape residue to gutters of Plate 84; Plate 85 slightly chipped at bottom margin, with tear (approx. 30mm) to top edge (illus. slightly affected); majority of plates have degree of foxing, varying from light through to heavy, but pages of text clean/bright/quite crisp.
NOTE: Plates 71 and 72 are missing, but all other plates present).
All vols. have neat name written in ink to front free-endpaper, and also printed armorial bookplate (of Richard Dawson (1817-1897), 1st Earl of Dartrey) to front paste-down endpaper.
