This sketch is the preliminary study of the last page, namely p.47, strip 3, picture 3 of the album Intermezzo in Hamaj'oewait no. 43 from 1989.
A highly detailed sketch shows the professor lying in bed, receiving his medicine from Stanske while talking to Piet. Every detail is present: even the flowers on the bedspread, the glasses and phone on the bedside table, Stanske holding the bottle, and so on. Kumulus's expression of anger is even more intense in the sketch than in the final drawing in the album.

To better gauge the perspective and arrangement of some drawings, Pom made sketches that were later destroyed; this is one of those rare, remaining sketches. As a perfectionist, he always aimed to get the proportions right but almost always destroyed the (in his eyes) imperfect sketch.
