Superb binding by Paul Affolter (1859-1929) in half-cherry morocco with corner pieces, gold fillets along the covers and edges, rounded spine decorated with a rich design of scrolls and gold tooling, title and date in gilt letters, gilt head. Covers and spine preserved.
Contains a luxurious monograph dedicated to the French painter Eugène Lami (1800-1890). Limited to 500 numbered copies on Rives paper, this one No. 1077.
Numerous plates after the original paintings and drawings. High-quality illustrations mounted on heavy paper.
Condition: binding in very good condition, slight rubbing on the edges and corners. Interior fresh and clean, without foxing, pages browned. A good copy in an excellent quality binding.
Eugène Louis Lami was a French painter, watercolorist, illustrator, lithographer, costume designer, and decorator born in Paris on January 12, 1800, and died in Paris on December 19, 1890 (at 90 years old). A painter of elegant life in Paris under the July Monarchy and the Second Empire, he was also a history painter and book illustrator, notably for Gil Blas and Manon Lescaut.
