I am offering for auction a superb late 18th/early 19th century oil on canvas of a classical harbour scene with couple in foreground with boat and male crouching to left, fortification on headland, unsigned, in later decorative frame. Circle of Claude-Joseph Vernet. (1714-1789)
Christie’s stencil marks on back stretcher.
Provenance. From the estate of John Pedder R.I. (1850-1929)
The painting measures 39 x 29 cm. The frame is 53 x 43 cm.
Condition of the painting is fairly good. Please view all photos for accurate condition. Craquelure present. Ready to hang.
Please note. Due to the fragile nature of old frames and glass, our shippers do not provide insurance for any damage caused during transit. We go to great lengths to ensure each painting is packed and protected to a very high standard but sadly cannot compensate or refund for any damage occurring to frames or glass during transit.
