Michael Peddio: My free expression is not confined by a preconceived idea but is conveyed through color and shapes as the only tools, a return to a form of primordial art. The absence of drawing is, for me, a prerogative of the indeterminability of the work at the moment of its creation; just as in life, and especially in the times we live in, there can be no certainty of outcome for any situation.
My painting evolves from a blank canvas to an unpredictable ending. For me, there is only acceptance of art as an unpredictable and uncontrollable process.
Michael Peddio takes his first steps in art as a child, inspired by his father Riccardo, a painter. The turning point occurs around the age of 30, thanks to his encounter with master Teobaldo Cattini, a Reggio painter known for his macchiaiolo style, who opened the doors to painting for him. He draws great inspiration and strength from the former boxer painter. In 2012, meeting artist Barbara Nicoletto, his current partner, marked the beginning of his second artistic season and artistic maturity. Between 2013 and 2014, painting began to take on an inner significance. Figurative art started giving way to introspection. Inner strength took over, and the canvas became a tear, increasingly unfiltered over the years, more and more free of hesitation in revealing his I. Strengths and weaknesses are shown without shame. The man is naked, without masks.
In April 2016, he was noticed by critic Daniel Buso and, together with his partner Barbara Nicoletto, exhibited at: Il Museo in Vetrina, Bipersonale at Museo CA’ DEI CARRARESI in Treviso, a very important venue rarely granted to an emerging artist.
In 2018, Michael Peddio reached his painterly maturity. His paintings are free from constraints, expressing with harmony and beauty all the raw reality that the artist wants to be shown.
Let us find strength and harmony. Let us find positivity even in tragedy. Let us find beauty.
Since 2018, we have seen the artist collaborating with Galleria REART, opening up to the art world and engaging with other artists in the national scene. We see him exhibiting and also curating exhibitions. Together with artist Barbara Nicoletto and Giorgio Ferretti, he founded the movement of the Chromatists. They gather in a Factory, a place for discussion and work.
In 2020, the meeting with Angela Lazzaretti, owner of Radium Artis Gallery, was a significant source of connection for Michael Peddio with the art world at a national level. The exhibition in Pietrasanta at Radium Artis Gallery marked his debut in the art that matters, at the age of 46, giving him the visibility that his works deserve.
In 2021, the meeting with critic and curator Alberto Navilli marked the beginning of a further evolutionary step, witnessing his art increasingly grow along the path of an ever more raw and uncompromising spontaneity.
