Serge Lifar (in Ukrainian Sergueï Mikhaïlovitch Lifar) is a Ukrainian-born dancer, choreographer, and educator who became a French citizen. He was born in Kiev on April 2, 1905, and died in Lausanne on December 15, 1986. A reformer of movement and dance technique, to which he added two foot positions, Serge Lifar was one of the creators who established the neo-classical style, a term he used notably to describe his ballet Suite en blanc from 1943.
