Hobbe Smith – Watercolor ‘Dutch boat with city view’
Signed and dated bottom left.
Dated: 1926
Aquarelle dimensions: 52 × 35 cm
Outer dimensions of the frame: 90 × 69 cm
A atmospheric watercolor by Hobbe Smith (1862–1942), depicting a characteristic Dutch boat against the backdrop of a city by the water. The loose, impressionistic brushwork and subtle use of color give the work a light, almost poetic appearance. The artist employs a subdued palette of grays and browns, evoking a melancholic, almost timeless atmosphere. Smith's sense of atmosphere and composition is beautifully expressed here.
The watercolor is in excellent condition. The frame shows some signs of use and could be replaced or restored if desired.
For this 100-year-old work, you will receive the book Hobbe Smith – The Frisian chronicler of Amsterdam, a beautiful overview of his life, era, and work.
