La Jeune Parque. Poem by Paul Valéry with commentary by Alain, numbered edition no. 128 on Arches blanc vélin, published by Librairie Gallimard in 1936, 76 pages, soft cover with slipcase.
Description from the seller
Original edition of Valéry's text 'The Philosopher and the Young Parque (as a Prologue)' and Alain's commentaries.
One of the 1010 copies on white Arches laid paper, this one no. 128.
A poem of 512 lines to which he dedicated about four years. Initially, he was supposed to write — at the request of his publisher Gallimard and his friend André Gide — a poetic preface of about thirty lines to accompany a reissue of his early poems. But he was overwhelmed by the initial project and then wrote what some consider his masterpiece: the inner monologue of a young woman caught in a struggle between body and mind, written in a formal style worthy of his master Mallarmé.
Paperback, flap cover. With slipcase.
Condition: volume in perfect state, solid case, slight scuffs on the corners.
Paul Valéry
The Young Fates. A poem by Paul Valéry commented on by Alain.
Paris, Gallimard Nrf Bookstore 1936
One volume, in4 (25 x 19.5 cm); 76 pages, 2 folded pages. Complete.
