Description from the seller
This is the first Polish edition of The Silmarillion, published in 1985 by 'Czytelnik' (as indicated on the rights page: 'Spółdzielnia Wydawnicza „Czytelnik”, Warszawa, 1985; ISBN 83-07-00632-5').
The volume appears to be in excellent condition: the dust jacket is well preserved, with no obvious tears or severe creases; the underlying hardcover seems intact; the internal pages (including genealogical charts and maps) are whole, without noticeable stains, significant signs of use, tears, or creases. The photos clearly show that even the paper — often prone to yellowing over the years — is well maintained.
The inclusion of maps, genealogies, and internal maps makes the edition particularly complete and attractive to collectors of foreign editions of Tolkien.
The dust jacket includes the illustration by artist Stasys Eidrigevičius, and the graphics/editorial design are those of the original Polish first edition, complemented by layout, cover, and title page created by Zbigniew Czarnecki. These details make the volume an authentic and carefully curated collectible piece.
It is an opportunity for Polish language collectors, fans of translated fantasy literature, or for those seeking a 'vintage' and hard-to-find version of a classic fantasy work.
Condition of preservation: Excellent, collectible — 'near-fine / fine' (no tears, stains, writings, cuts, or missing parts reported; cover and dust jacket well preserved; the volume's structure solid).
Strengths for collectors / buyers
Edition out of catalog / out of print — difficult to find today.
First edition in the Polish language, with a presumably limited print run.
Hardcover with original dust jacket and artistic illustration.
Completeness: maps, genealogies, and additional materials intact.
Excellent condition, practically free of defects.
