Description from the seller
Superb original edition of Arab and Muslim Anecdotes by De la Croix and Hornot, a comprehensive historical narrative organized in a lively manner that covers the history of the Arab and Muslim world from the birth of Islam (around 614 AD) to the extinction of the Caliphate in 1538. The work gathers significant facts, famous episodes, and stories of key figures — from the beginnings of Muhammad to the rise and fall of major dynasties such as the Umayyads, Fatimids, and Abbasids — offering an accessible and vivid chronicle of this long period. Presented chronologically, this volume aims to enlighten a European reader of the 18th century about the political, religious, and cultural dynamics that shaped the Arab world and classical Islam.
Jean-François de La Croix was a French compiler and writer of the 18th century, known for his numerous collections of historical anecdotes touching on different regions and eras (Europe, Americas, Arab world, etc.). He published many similar works such as Anecdotes of the North (1770), American Anecdotes (1776), or historical dictionaries. Few biographical details are preserved, but he is recognized as a prolific producer of compiled historical stories rather than as an author of original texts.
