Description from the seller
Original painting from 1893 – Male portrait
Technique: oil on canvas
Measurements: 54 × 40 cm (with frame)
Cornice: included
Fascinating signs of time and historical wear.
Presented is an elegant and intense 19th-century male portrait, dated 1893, executed in oil on canvas by an academically trained artist of excellent caliber. The work immediately strikes with the strength of the gaze, the realistic rendering of the complexion, and the quality of light, characteristic features of late 19th-century painting from the Italian or French sphere.
The canvas shows various imperfections, abrasions, slight color fading, and traces of time: authentic marks, not restored, that give the painting a truly unique vintage charm and tell its long historical journey. These are not 'destructive' defects, but rather the genuine patina that many collectors seek and appreciate in untouched old oil paintings.
At the bottom edge, a historical signature is visible, now partially worn but still legible in part, serving as an additional point of interest.
The back shows an original solid wood frame, with the typical natural oxidation of works over 130 years old.
The frame, from the early to mid-20th century, is simple but elegant and perfectly enhances the portrait.
The input is a dash character, which does not require translation.
Points of interest for the collector
Authentic oil on canvas from 1893
Signed (partially legible signature)
Lived conditions but fascinating, with a sought-after historical patina.
Subject of great emotional intensity
Cornice included
Perfect for vintage, classic, loft environments, and collections of antique portraiture.
