This sword is a magnificent piece reminiscent of a suriage katana crafted during the Kamakura period.

The blade condition is flawless, top-tier quality, beautifully polished throughout. The jigane features a pattern of itame grain with some mokume appearing in places, evoking the appearance of an antique blade. The hamon displays an irregular pattern of gunome and midare, creating a dynamic and lively effect that offers the true pleasure of appreciation. Sanskrit characters are engraved on both sides of the blade. As the motif for this piece was likely a Kamakura-period tachi, the main theme is engraved on the sashiura side, while the secondary theme is on the sashimote side. Both sides prominently feature the Sanskrit character for Fudō Myōō(Acala), emphasizing its role as a protective blade. The artist's signature is engraved on the ridge of the nakago: “Nijugo Roku Dai Kanefusa Saku Reiwa Gan'nebn Gogatsu Tsuitachi”, which indicates it was jointly crafted by the 25th and 26th generation Kanefusa, father and son, on May 1st, 2019.

The Kanefusa lineage traces its origins to the first Kanefusa, a swordsmith active in Mino Province (present-day Gifu Prefecture) during the Warring State period. This family has continuously passed down Japanese sword-making techniques to the present day.

The 25th-generation Kanefusa, whose real name is Kato Kazuo, was born in 1957 as the second son of the previous generation. He is a master swordsmith renowned for creating magnificent works, including swords dedicated to Meiji Shrine and Atsuta Shrine, and swords for Yokozuna grand champions in sumo.

The 26th-generation Kanefusa, whose real name is Masafumi, was born in 1978 as the eldest son of the 25th-generation Kanefusa. He is a promising young swordsmith who has won numerous awards at exhibitions of new swords.

This sword is a rare piece made jointly by father and son, making it highly valuable. The Koshirae consists of a tsuka wrapped in white silk in the tsumami-maki style and a scabbard finished in emerald green nasiji lacquer. The tsuba is an antique piece with an inscription, engraved with the names of Yamashiro Koku Nishijin Ju Umetada. This tsuba alone is highly valuable. It also comes with Shirasaya for storing the blade, so you can change it according to your mood and enjoy viewing it. This is undoubtedly a piece worthy of your collection.
