FIRST editions, two parts bound in one large octavo: [41, 168; [2], 171-425 pages, with illustrations in text throughout.

First edition of both parts of the author's important study on the localization of functions in diseases of the brain. The first volume deals with cerebral disorders, the second volume (part of the first complete edition) discusses disorders of the spinal cord.Charcot (1825-1893), the greatest clinical neurologist in France, is also acknowledged as one of the founders of neuropathology. "Charcot with his colleague Pitres brought order out of the chaos concerning cerebral localization even before the physiological experiments of Ferrier and Horsley.The first conclusive demonstration of the cortical motor centers in man by clinical and anatomical methods is due to Charcot and his pupils" (McHenry).

Nice fresh copy on half red morocco and marbled boards. Dr Delanef is in gilt on the spine.
