Description from the seller

Main features of the work
• Lodovico Cavaleri (1867-1942) • Storm at sea with boats • oil on canvas • 34×54 cm (54×74 cm with a silvered wood frame in Mecca) • signed bottom left • provenance Gelardini Arte (Rome) • private collection

This intense marine painting, dating from the last decade of the 19th century or the very early years of the 20th century, depicts a coastal scene stirred by the motion of the waves, animated by the presence of boats driven by the wind under a sky heavy with clouds. The palette, fresh and vibrant, imparts immediacy to the atmospheric rendering and the natural force of the sea.

Cavaleri, a prominent figure of the last Lombard naturalism, combines observation from life with a vivacious coloring that brings him closer to the Lombard Impressionists of the late 19th century. In this work, his preference for seascapes is evident, a genre he specialized in during that period, drawing inspiration from models such as Pompeo Mariani and Giorgio Belloni.

The artwork is signed by hand at the bottom left and comes from Gelardini Arte di Roma.

Lodovico Cavaleri participated in three Venice Biennials and received numerous awards, including the appointment as honorary professor at the Academy of Fine Arts of Carrara, honorary member of the Academy of Brera, and emeritus professor at the Academy of Fine Arts of Perugia. His painting remains a valuable testimony of the Lombard tradition between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.

The buyer will receive the artwork in carefully packed and sturdy packaging. Very fast shipping. Free pickup available in Monza/Milan.
