Shortly after the war, a publication with loose drawings, created by the ex-Buchenwald prisoner Henri Pieck (1895-1972), appeared in the Netherlands.
Many of these drawings he worked out immediately after the war from sketches he secretly made in the camp.
During World War II, he was a prominent member of the communist resistance organization De Vonk in The Hague. The illegal papers De Waarheid and De Vonk were stencil-printed in his studio.
He was arrested on June 9, 1941. He was imprisoned until March 1942 at the Scheveningen prison (Oranjehotel), after which he was transferred via Kamp Amersfoort to the Buchenwald concentration camp, where he remained until 1945. Henri Pieck was a Dutch visual artist, communist, spy, and resistance fighter.
He was the twin brother of the famous artist Anton Pieck.
