Very rare original edition on Japan of the Roman de Tristan and Iseut recomposed by Joseph Bedier and printed in 1900 in its original case. Non-numbered publisher's copy, formerly owned by Charles Masson, associate of Henri Piazza.
One of the great books from the Piazza editions from the early twentieth century, such as Antar (an Arabic heroic poem, color illustrations by E. Dinet, 1898) and Ise, Princess of Tripoli (lithographs by A. Mucha, Paris: Piazza, 1897). It impresses with the quantity of illustrations accompanying the story as well as the strength and beauty of the drawings, whose dark and powerful style aligns with the atmosphere one might imagine of this medieval period and the tragic story of Tristan and Iseult.
Iseut is written with a 'Y' on the subscription booklet and the box, and with an 'i' on the book.
