Unfree depicts the Statue of Liberty in an unprecedented and disarming pose: its hands cover its face, as if in a gesture of crying or shame. A universal symbol of hope, welcome, and rights, the figure here bends over itself, powerless in the face of a present that contradicts the values it embodies. The work is a visual reflection on the concept of denied, manipulated, or betrayed freedom. The crown remains intact, but it is now more a burden than a sign of power. Unfree is a silent cry, a broken icon that invites introspection and questions the true meaning of the word 'freedom' today.
This new work stems from the creativity of the French artist Louis Dourand, known for having collaborated in the past with Santicri, in an artistic dialogue that has managed to blend different visual languages into a shared expressive vision. Santicri – with whom Louis Dourand has collaborated on several occasions – is one of the most prominent contemporary artists on the international scene.
He exhibited his works in prestigious venues such as Palazzo Grillo in Genoa in 2022 and the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) in New York in 2023.
In 2024, he was recognized among the Best-Selling Artists by Artmayeur and entered the top 3 of the most searched artists on Catawiki, alongside names like Kaws and Banksy.
