Merope tells the dramatic story of a mother, Queen Merope, who lives in pain over the presumed death of her son Egitto, believed to be a victim of an usurper. However, the young man is still alive and returns under a concealed identity to carry out his revenge. The situation nearly turns into a severe tragedy when Merope, deceived by appearances, risks killing her son in her desperation. Only the final recognition allows for their reunion and offers the mother and son the chance to unite against the tyrant, restoring justice and order.
Aminta, on the other hand, is a pastoral tale that contrasts the purity of love with the coldness of indifference. Shepherd Aminta sincerely loves the nymph Silvia, but she, devoted to hunting, rejects any romantic feelings. When Aminta believes Silvia is lost, pain drives him to attempt suicide. Faced with such devotion, Silvia finally understands the depth of that feeling and decides to reciprocate it. In a serene and natural atmosphere, the story celebrates the power of love that transforms, consoles, and brings hearts closer.
It also includes 'Amore Fuggitivo' by Tasso.
And the dedication poems by Vincenzo Monti.
