Artist's Biography
Isidro Òdena y Daura was born on January 4, 1910, in the San Pedro neighborhood of Terrassa, and was baptized in these Romanesque Churches with the names of Isidro Juan and José.
At the age of thirteen, he enrolled in the School of Arts and Crafts under the direction of Master Tomás Viver.
A few years later, he alternated his studies at the Llotja de Barcelona with the workshop of set designer Alarma, under the direction of Maestro Cabanes.
In 1927, he rented a spacious studio in an attic that had been the former studio of painter Joaquim Vancells, but shortly after, he handed it over to a whole series of friends, also painters, and the entity Amigos de las Artes was formed.
At eighteen years old, he already exhibits his paintings in his own city as well as in Vic, Mataró, Figueres, Perpignan, and others.
In 1931, he received a pension from the Terrassa City Council to spend a season in Paris and also in Belgium, particularly in Bruges, where he delighted in painting the idyllic canals of this place, known as the Venice of the North.
In Paris, among others, he makes acquaintance with Pablo Planas, Torres García, Julio González, Mompou, poet Joseph Riviere, lawyer Henry Torres, etc.
After completing military service, he continued painting and also works on wood and linoleum engraving, with the most popular piece being the illustration of the (Legend of the Dragon of Sant Llorenç del Munt) based on a poem by Poeta Pons. This work was signed under the name Sidru.
He has exhibited several times in Barcelona and other places in Catalonia. Also in Valencia, Zaragoza, Paris, Toulouse, Lyon, and London, where he has spent long stays.
He also dedicated himself to the genre of small paintings, which are highly appreciated by foreign audiences, particularly market scenes in Vic square, a subject known worldwide.
She also participated in a competition to fill positions for applied drawing teachers in the primary schools of the Generalitat, obtaining a position she was able to dedicate to her own city.
Having an exhibition at Amigos de las Artes in Terrassa, it was visited by the great Francesc Macià, who wrote in the guestbook the following:
My spirit has taken off upon receiving the impression made on me by the artistic works of the young painter Isidre Òdena.
