Cream-coloured cloth binding with brown-stamped boards, lettered spine with 6 raised bands, and red top edge. No dust jacket. Centenary edition of Goethe’s Faust commemorating the 100th death anniversary of the author. Comes with 221 pages of preface about Faust and the Arts, profusely illustrated throughout with black- and white engravings, and tipped in plates. The play itself starts at the second half of the book and is set in handsome Gothic script typography printed in black and red.
Slight rubbing, bumping, wear, and some soiling to the boards and spine. Ex Libris sticker on the front pastedown endpaper, and pencil markings on the back pastedown endpaper. The plates on pages 152 and 189 have a creased corner. Very little browning and spotting throughout. The text and illustrations are clear, and the binding is solid. Overall, a nice copy in very good- condition.
