Luxury edition, illustrated with charming compositions by Paul Baudier, enhanced with stencil colors (banners and drop caps).
Limited to only 550 numbered copies, with the mention 'This luxury edition will never be reprinted.'
This one is number 304 out of 500 on Vélin paper with the shape, numbered from 51 to 550 (after 50 in Japan).
Bound in a beautiful brown half-leather binding with corner pieces, with a spine featuring four raised bands decorated with gold tooling, embellished with the title and author's name stamped with small tools. Gilt top.
Condition: binding in very good condition, spine slightly worn. Interior fresh and clean. Beautiful uncut copy.
Verlaine was then caught between two women: he had met Philomène Boudin, known as Esther, in September 1887; he reunites with her in May 1889, and in 1891 she becomes his partner. However, in May 1891, he meets Eugénie Krantz, for whom he immediately feels a strong passion; she leaves him in the middle of 1892; then Philomène returns and cares for the very ill poet, who is considering marrying her. The Odes in her honor were written for Philomène.
The first edition was published in 1893.
