Description
Elegant vintage Seiko Lord Matic from the late 1960s, reference 5606-7070, with a clean silver sunburst dial and practical day-date display.
The watch carries the serial number 867843 and the case-back markings SEIKO – WATERPROOF – STAINLESS STEEL – 5606-7070 – JAPAN J, indicating production in June 1968 in Japan. The dial is marked LORD MATIC – 23 JEWELS and JAPAN 5606-7070T AD.
This Lord Matic line sat above Seiko’s standard automatic range in its day and was aimed at customers who wanted a refined, reliable everyday dress watch. The minimalist silver dial with applied baton indices, slim hands and a red “SUN” day indication is very typical of late-1960s Japanese design and wears extremely well today thanks to the contemporary 38 mm case size.
The automatic movement (calibre 5606, 23 jewels) has been checked and the watch was observed running for 24 hours without stopping. Exact accuracy and power reserve have not been tested with professional equipment and are not guaranteed, as is normal for a vintage watch of this age.
Overall, this is a desirable, all-stainless-steel Seiko Lord Matic that combines collectible value with everyday wearability – a strong candidate for collectors of Japanese vintage watches or anyone looking for a characterful dress watch with true 1960s charm.

Condition (based on the photos)
• Case: Stainless steel case with visible scratches, small dings and general wear consistent with age. The edges still retain some definition, but there are marks on the lugs and bezel.
• Dial: Silver sunburst dial in good vintage condition. Printing (“SEIKO”, “LORD MATIC 23 JEWELS”, “JAPAN 5606-7070T AD”) is clear and legible. Minor ageing/spots around the outer edge only, visible in the photos.
• Hands & indices: Original baton hands and applied indices, showing light ageing but no major damage.
• Crystal: Acrylic (or similar) crystal with light surface scratches and marks from use.
• Case-back: Screw case-back with clear engravings: “SEIKO – WATERPROOF – STAINLESS STEEL – 5606-7070 – JAPAN J – 867843”. Normal scratches from opening and wear.
• Crown: Crown appears original style; some wear and marks visible.
• Bracelet & clasp: Stainless steel bracelet with fold-over clasp. Unsigned; the brand of the bracelet is not confirmed. Scratches, small dents and signs of ageing on links and clasp, as shown in the photos. Some stretch/play in the bracelet typical for a watch of this age.
• Function:
• Automatic winding movement, checked running for 24 hours.
• Day and date change observed; long-term precision, power reserve and water resistance are not tested and not guaranteed.
• Water resistance: The case-back is marked “WATERPROOF”, but due to age this watch must be treated as not water resistant and should be kept away from water.
Please rely on the photos for the most accurate impression of the condition.
⸻
Size & Fit
• Case diameter: approx. 38 mm (measured without crown)
• Lug-to-lug: not precisely measured (standard Lord Matic proportion; see photos for scale)
• Bracelet: stainless steel, currently sized to an inner circumference of approx. 18 cm (as shown on the sizing cone). Adjustment is possible at the clasp. No extra links are included.

Story & Collectability
The Seiko Lord Matic series was introduced as an upper-middle-class line in Seiko’s domestic range, offering higher-quality movements and refined finishing. This 5606-7070 from 1968 represents the golden era of Japanese watchmaking, when Seiko was rapidly innovating and competing successfully with Swiss manufacturers.
The combination of:
• classic, minimalistic silver dial
• versatile 38 mm stainless steel case
• reliable 23-jewel automatic movement
• early “WATERPROOF” case-back engraving and late-1960s production
makes this piece particularly attractive to collectors who value original Japanese domestic market models. Watches like this are increasingly sought after as clean, unpolished examples become harder to find. This Lord Matic can be worn daily as a stylish vintage dress watch or kept as part of a curated Seiko collection.
