Description from the seller
Work Title: Zori (草履)
Artist: Anonymous
Technique: Woodcut Print
Artist’s Seal: Present on the print
Paper Dimensions: 14.5 × 20.5 cm (5.7 × 8.1 in)
Frame Dimensions: 22.5 × 27.5 cm (8.9 × 10.8 in)
Paper Material: Washi (和紙)
This is a black-and-white woodcut print centered on zori (草履)—a traditional Japanese footwear. Typically woven from straw, hemp, or similar materials, zori are commonly paired with kimono. The work leverages the line texture and block contrast of woodcut techniques: dense parallel lines simulate the woven texture of zori, restoring its intricate weave details and silhouette. The black-and-white palette accentuates the understated aesthetic of this traditional object. The artist’s seal is positioned in the lower left corner of the composition.
The marking "H.7.9.19" on the frame’s backing board denotes a date: "H.7" corresponds to Heisei 7 (1995), and "9.19" refers to September 19—most likely the work’s completion or framing date.
This artwork comes with a wooden frame and glass panel. The frame originally showed signs of wear such as dents and scuffs, but it has been refinished with fresh paint. Due to age, the paper exhibits oxidation, yellowing, and yellow spots.
- The picture is part of the description. The color of the item may be slightly different from the picture (due to camera and screen settings).
- The successful bidder will be responsible for any customs duties and taxes (if applicable).
- This item will be mailed by the postal service of Taiwan in the form of airmail with insurance attached.
