Description from the seller
Seiko 5 Automatic 6119-8020 – 21 Jewels – Champagne Dial – Stainless Steel – 1967 Vintage Men’s Watch
Description
This is an original Seiko 5 automatic wristwatch, reference 6119-8020, with a warm champagne sunburst dial and stainless steel case and bracelet.
From the serial number 7N11003 and the period in which the 6119 calibre and “Water Proof” case backs were used, this example was manufactured in November 1967 in Japan.
It represents the early era of the Seiko 5 concept: a practical, reliable automatic watch with day-date display, robust case and comfortable bracelet, designed to be worn every day.
The dial has applied baton indices, original hands and the classic Seiko 5 shield at 12 o’clock. The framed day-date window at 3 o’clock, with red “SUN” in English, adds a strong vintage character. The champagne tone of the dial has aged evenly, giving a soft patina that collectors appreciate on 1960s Seiko pieces.
This watch still has its original Seiko 5 signed stainless steel bracelet and clasp, completing the period-correct look.
⸻
Movement and functions
• Seiko in-house calibre 6119, automatic winding, 21 jewels (as printed on the dial).
• Central hours, minutes, and seconds.
• Day and date at 3 o’clock.
• Date quick-set by pushing the crown – function checked.
• Day change confirmed by running the watch for 24 hours.
• 24-hour running test completed; the watch is currently in working order.
• Service history is unknown; for daily use a routine service is recommended, as with all vintage mechanical watches.
⸻
Case, bracelet and dimensions
• Reference: 6119-8020 (engraved on case back).
• Material: stainless steel case, “WATER PROOF” back.
• Case diameter: approx. 37 mm without crown, based on known specifications for this reference and consistent with similar Seiko 5 6119-8020 models.
• Lug-to-lug: approx. 42 mm (specification for this reference).
• Thickness: standard for the 6119 automatic series (not measured precisely).
• Original signed Seiko 5 stainless steel bracelet with folding clasp.
• Bracelet is currently sized for a wrist of approx. 17.5–18.0 cm, as shown on the measuring cone photo; no extra links are included.
⸻
Condition (vintage, used)
Please study all photos carefully; they are part of the description.
• Dial: original champagne sunburst dial in overall good vintage condition with some ageing and small spots, especially near the day-date window. The printing remains clear and legible.
• Hands and indices: original, with light ageing and surface marks consistent with age.
• Crystal: acrylic crystal with visible scratches and marks, including some more noticeable lines; still usable but not new.
• Case: stainless steel case shows scratches, small dings and wear from normal use over decades; edges remain fairly sharp.
• Case back: clearly engraved “STAINLESS STEEL 6119-8020 WATER PROOF” and serial number; normal scratches from opening and wear.
• Bracelet & clasp: original Seiko 5 signed bracelet; surface scratches, small dents and some stretch as expected on a 1960s bracelet, but still wearable.
• Water resistance: not tested. Due to age, no water resistance is guaranteed.
This is a genuine vintage watch from 1967; please do not expect modern-day perfection. Collectors seeking an honest, original Seiko 5 with attractive patina will appreciate its condition.
⸻
Collectability and story
Early Seiko 5 watches with the 6119 automatic movement and “Water Proof” case back are increasingly recognised as important pieces in Seiko’s history.
This 6119-8020 captures that moment perfectly:
• a reliable in-house automatic calibre designed for everyday use,
• a versatile 37 mm stainless steel case that wears well on modern wrists,
• and a warm champagne dial that has developed a gentle vintage character over almost 60 years.
For a European collector, this watch offers an accessible entry into serious Seiko collecting: a 1960s Japanese automatic with original bracelet and a classic, dressy style that still works in today’s business or casual environment.
Whether added to a Seiko 5 collection, worn as a daily vintage piece, or kept as an investment in mid-century Japanese watchmaking, it is a watch with real history on the wrist.
