Description from the seller
1950s Pieraccini Madonna & Early Virgin with Child - Signed Religious Sculptures
This pair of devotional sculptures offers a compelling juxtaposition of styles and materials, capturing the essence of Marian iconography across time. Crafted with reverence, each piece evokes spiritual presence and artistic expression.
The first statue, standing 32.5 cm (12.8 in) high, is a serene depiction of the Madonna in prayer. Made of plaster and signed by the artist Pieraccini, this mid-20th century Italian work showcases delicate drapery, a rosary in her clasped hands, and a tranquil facial expression. Despite visible signs of wear, including chipped areas on the face, robe, and base, the signature and craftsmanship ensure its lasting appeal to collectors of religious art.
The second sculpture, at 22.8 cm (9 in) tall, represents a more archaic depiction of the Virgin Mary holding the Christ Child. With its stylized features and darker patina, this statue likely references earlier medieval traditions. The number "175" is inscribed at the back of the base, hinting at a mold or catalog reference. Made of plaster with a bronze-like finish, it bears wear and small losses, particularly to the head and base, adding a sense of age and character.
Originating from Italy, these two pieces offer a meaningful addition to any sacred art collection. Their contrasting aesthetics and devotional symbolism make them ideal for display, restoration, or spiritual reflection.
Dimensions:
* Pieraccini Madonna: 32.5 x 8.5 x 6.5 cm (12.8 x 3.3 x 2.6 in)
* Virgin with Child: 22.8 x 8.5 x 6 cm (9 x 3.3 x 2.4 in)
