Description from the seller
Rare pair of lamp bases in the 'Insulator' style by Giovanni Gariboldi for Richard Ginori (San Cristoforo) - 1930s/40s
Exceptional and rare pair of porcelain lamp bodies, the inspiring model of the corresponding Isolatore (or Totem) series, produced by the Richard Ginori manufactory at the historic San Cristoforo plant in Milan.
The green mark under the base, with the inscription 'Richard Ginori' accompanied by three stars, allows dating the production to the golden age of Milanese artistic direction (between the 1930s and 1940s), a period strongly influenced by the genius of Gio Ponti and his successor Giovanni Gariboldi, to whom this iconic design is attributed.
The sculptural form inspired by overlapping disks, when not directly used as high-voltage electrical insulators, exemplifies Italian rationalism and elevated industrial design as a work of art.
The porcelains are in excellent condition, free of chips or cracks; the glazing is shiny.
They present the original green 'Richard Ginori' brand with three stars.
It is noted on one of the pieces a slight patina of age (small ivory-colored dots in the enameling) that attests to its authenticity and period.
Sold as porcelain bases to be customized with a base and electrical system at the buyer's discretion (ideal for a philological restoration with a brass or wood base).
Measurements: 16.5 H x 12 each. Weight: 2.7kg each.
Bibliographic notes
Models of the isolator series present in the San Cristoforo production archives, designed around 1936.
