Description from the seller
"Blue and Yellow Bird" is an expressive color lithograph from the late period of Georges Braque's career. The work combines clear, simplified forms with a calm, harmonious color palette and reflects Braque's poetic visual language of the 1960s.
The composition is among those works in which the artist bestowed a very special, almost meditative presence upon his characteristic bird motifs.
Blue and Yellow Bird
Year of origin: 1996
Technique: color lithography on high-quality paper
Edition: Limited Edition
Sheet size: 60 x 80 cm
Georges Braque (1882–1963) is one of the influential figures in modern art. Together with Pablo Picasso, he developed Cubism, setting standards that profoundly changed the way form and space are understood. After his Cubist phase, Braque increasingly turned to a calmer, lyrical style characterized by clear lines, balanced compositions, and an extremely sensitive use of color.
In his later years, he dedicated himself intensely to graphic art. Especially the bird motifs, which repeatedly appear in his lithographs, paintings, and drawings, are symbolic of his search for freedom, simplicity, and inner harmony. Braque's work is today regarded as a significant bridge between avant-garde rigor and poetic lightness.
