LUNAR PILOT METEORITE - Limited Edition 5000 Pieces
Piece number 4456/5000
Bulova pays tribute to its rich and storied history of collaboration with NASA and the U.S. space program with a new version of the famous Lunar Pilot. The new limited-edition Meteorite Lunar Pilot watch.
In a world where the conquest of space is extremely current, Bulova continues to keep the value of its history alive through the models of the Archive series, today offering a limited edition replica of the original watch that traveled to the moon with the particularity of a dial made of meteorite that makes each piece unique.
SPACE ON THE WRIST
For this limited edition, Bulova drew inspiration from space, considering crafting the model's dial with a thin core of meteorite material. Meteorites are formed when meteoroids—rocks ranging from the size of a grain of sand to small asteroids—impact the Earth's atmosphere. These meteorites, called meteor showers, pass through the Earth's atmosphere, overheating and sometimes emitting light and forming luminous streaks (shooting stars). Once they fall to Earth, the meteorite undergoes an extremely slow cooling process, having been heated by the combination of gravitational compression and the impact energy created by collisions and the decay of isotopes that occurred before hitting the Earth's surface. This combination of heating the crystalline structure formed over millions of years and subsequent cooling gives rise to a particular structure of the iron-based meteorite, called the “Widmanstätten” pattern, an intricate design of intersecting lamellae that form unique patterns, thus making each dial unique, unrepeatable and not artificially replicable.
Features
Bulova's new Lunar Pilot Meteorite has the exact same diameter as the original model—43.5 mm—and features a grade 5 titanium case with a matte sandblasted finish. The dial features the oldest known meteorite, the "Muonionalusta" Meteorite, which scientists estimate is 4.5653 billion years old.
The new Lunar Pilot features a quartz movement accurate to 1/20th of a second, called High Precision Quartz, a Bulova patent called HPQ (High Precision Quartz) featured in the NP20 chronograph. The combination of these elements makes the model a perfect collector's item for watchmaking and space exploration enthusiasts. The NATO strap, with its quick-release system for interchangeability, sapphire crystal, printed tachometric scale and dimensional scale on the dial, Super-LumiNova-coated hands and indexes, and a screw-down caseback engraved with the limited edition and lunar walk. The mix of features is completed by water resistance to 50 meters. The model is limited to 5,000 pieces worldwide, including 1,000 in Italy, and comes with a special packaging and commemorative booklet.
