Description from the seller

This beautiful set of six snail plates, produced by the Faïencerie de Niderviller (Manufacture de Niderviller) in the 1950s-1960s, illustrates the factory's evolution towards modernized utilitarian forms while preserving traditional ceramic craftsmanship. The model, unreferenced but perfectly identifiable by its stylistic and technical characteristics, demonstrates careful and consistent production, typical of the post-war period of the manufacture.

Each plate features a slightly concave circular shape towards the center, housing six embossed impressions designed to hold snails. These cavities, with organic contours reminiscent of stylized shells, are highlighted by an amber-brown glaze with lighter nuances in the hollows, creating an internal striped effect that recalls the natural texture of shells. The wide rim is covered with a uniform, glossy brown, providing an elegant contrast to the chromatic variations of the central decoration. The back, also glazed, demonstrates careful craftsmanship and consistent control of the firing process.

The set is in excellent overall condition. The surfaces retain their shine and show no notable signs of use. Only one plate has a tiny chip (about 2-3 mm) on the edge of a raised imprint, with no impact on the structural integrity or the presentation of the service. The other five pieces are intact.

Founded in the 18th century, the Niderviller manufactory is among the oldest French earthenware factories still active in the 20th century. After gaining renown for its pipe clay and fine earthenware productions, it modernized throughout the 20th century by incorporating utilitarian and gastronomic pieces that responded to new domestic and professional uses. These snail plates precisely follow this trajectory, combining a mastered decorative tradition with adaptations to contemporary tableware, while also demonstrating a quality of glazing and shaping characteristic of Niderviller during the post-war decades.

The average dimensions are:
Height: 2.8 centimeters.
Diameter: 20.7 centimeters.
Total weight of the set: 2350 grams.

Each of the six plates will be carefully individually packaged, and the entire order will be shipped quickly and securely. On-site pickup and group delivery are available. Photos are part of the description.
