Ritratto di Olga Modigliani, a 1920 oil painting on panel by Italian artist Corinna Modigliani (1871–1959), depicting Olga Modigliani, signed by hand, in good condition, 100 cm by 35 cm, original edition from Italy.
Description from the seller
Rare and fascinating oil portrait on wood panel created by Italian painter Corinna Modigliani (1871-1959). The work represents an important family bond, as the artist is the cousin of the famous Amedeo Modigliani, and the depicted is believed to be Olga Modigliani (sister and artistic collaborator of Corinna).
Subject and Style
The work depicts a half-length figure of Olga Modigliani, characterized by voluminous curly red hair and a notable necklace of pearls or red corals. The style is a detailed and romantic revival of Rococo, typical of Roman figurativism of the period, with a confident hand that highlights the details of the lace dress.
Technical Details and Support
Measurements: 99.5cm in height, 28.5cm in width.
The painting, created on a narrow, elongated wooden panel, stands out for the strong materiality of the pigments, especially in the vegetation in the foreground, which has been applied in relief, adding depth and three-dimensionality to the work.
The Authentication
The panel bears the signature of the artist 'C. Modigliani' in two distinct points, a detail that reinforces its attribution. The work is part of the corpus of Corinna Modigliani, known for her portraits of family and children.
Conditions
The piece shows signs of wear and patina consistent with its age and support (see the photos of the back of the panel). Small losses are present at the lower central part of the painting.
