Joannis Calvin, Great Theologian, Lectures on the Book of the Prophet Jeremiah and Lamentations: also on the Prophet Ezekiel - Amsterdam, Jacob Schipper, 1667 - Part 4 - [6] 656 [8], [6] 204 [8] pages - folio, blind-stamped parchment binding with raised bands on the spine


Good. Dents on the corners. Right knee open up to the fifth rib from the top, horizontal tear (not clearly visible in the photos - except in photos 9 and 10) between the third and fourth rib, as well as a restored tear at the top of the back. Interior discoloration, here and there a spot, foxing. Some creases, a dent at the bottom of the side edge from about page 20 to page 72 (see photos). Tear, 1 cm, in the margin of 2 pages.

Rare work in a beautiful binding

Two frontispieces: the first piece (Praelectiones in librum prophetarium Jeremiae, et Lamentationes) with a title vignette featuring the portrait of Calvin; the second piece (nec non in Ezechielis prophetae) with a woodcut (a ship with the motto 'Sunt mixta serenis tristia').

Printed in two columns with marginal notes.
