Description from the seller
焔
Pigment on canvas
100cm x 140cm (39 inches x 55 inches)
焔 (Homura) - Japenese for flame - is a large-scale abstract painting that explores the quiet moment where light seems to smoulder inside darkness. Warm raw sienna and yellow ochre pigments bloom upward from a dense charcoal base, creating a rising, smoky gradient that suggests embers, clouds or distant horizons without ever fixing into a concrete image.
The surface is built through diluted pigment washes and charcoal dust worked directly into the weave of the canvas. Soft blooms, tide lines, faint drips and irregular edges remain visible, revealing the path of water and gravity in the painting process. These traces of chance, along with subtle scratches and tonal variations, embody a wabi-sabi sensibility: beauty found in imperfection, transience and the patina of time.
Seen from a distance, the work reads as a deep, almost nocturnal landscape; up close, it dissolves into veils of colour and fine textural detail. The composition remains open and meditative, inviting the viewer to project their own associations into the shifting field of light and shadow.
This original painting by VITYRA is hand-signed on the reverse side to preserve the purity of the artwork’s surface and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity. VITYRA is represented by S-Gallery, a well-known gallery for Viennese boundary-pushing contemporary artists. The artwork will be shipped rolled in a secure, protective tube - an eco-friendly and safe method that reduces shipping costs and risk of damage. The canvas measures 100 x 140 cm (39 x 55 inches), with an extra 5 cm border on each side for easy re-stretching. Frame placement is lightly marked on the back to assist precise mounting.
