Marten Toonder Studio's - Het Toverkruid - 1 Album - First edition - 1952

In 1952, an advertisement sticker album was published by H. Smith, a trader in coffee and tea.
The Magic Herb is perhaps one of the most beautiful picture books ever created by Marten Toonder Studios. By purchasing products from Smith, people could collect the stickers that could be glued into the book. The drawings for these stickers were made with great care and dedication during the peak period of Marten Toonder Studios, and each sticker is a joy to look at. Delightful illustrations with Eastern themes and beautiful colors. A wonderful book that, partly due to the stunning artwork, can be considered one of the finest books by Marten Toonder Studios. The book was published in two editions. The first edition sold out very quickly and was an immediate success. Of course, a second edition was also published shortly thereafter.

This lot contains a fine example of a first edition (which is rare for this book) of this famous book. Beautiful front and back covers, a nice spine, complete with all the illustrations. A lot of paper still on the edges, which is unique; the book block is neat, and the book is still well contained within the cover. I have rarely seen this book, which was pasted and worked on, offered so beautifully. A very good copy.
