Description from the seller
This captivating oil on canvas painting, measuring 30x60 cm, is a captivating work by Roberto Mauri.
The artist employs a technique characterized by strong chromatic contrast and a horizontal composition that amplifies the sense of vastness and drama of the landscape.
The fabric is clearly divided into three main horizontal bands, even though the dominant color visually unites them.
The upper dial is dominated by muted shades of gray, off-white, and beige, suggesting a foggy atmosphere or an immediately post-temporal sky. The brushwork is soft and blended, conveying a sense of humidity and suspended quiet.
The center is the emotional and chromatic heart of the work. A massive expanse of cadmium red or cinnabar red, incredibly saturated, immediately catches the eye. This surface is rendered with thick, textured brushstrokes that emphasize its texture, suggesting a vast field in full bloom, most likely a poppy or a similar red flower. On the left, this red expanse borders a body of water, depicted with gray and cool tones, perfectly harmonizing with the sky. The blending of land and water is almost indistinguishable, enhancing the ambiguity of the landscape.
The lower edge is characterized by a stripe of pure or very light white, from which the individual red spots of the flowers in the foreground emerge, suggesting that the observer is right at the edge of this fiery field.
The focal point of the composition is a small rural house or a shed. The structure, painted in a neutral and almost minimal white, is topped with a saturated emerald green roof, the only bright cold color contrasting with the intense red. The building stands solitary at the border between the water and the flowering field.
On the mirror of water, on the left, two small boats are visible, probably fishing boats or small rafts, adding a narrative and dimensional touch. The trees in the background are reduced to indistinct gray-green silhouettes, contributing to the almost dreamlike atmosphere and the sense of spatial depth created by the fog.
The work is a powerful exploration of the emotional landscape. The intense red symbolizes passion, vitality, and potentially melancholy (given the gray sky), creating a visual tension that defines Mauri's distinctive style. The artist's signature is clearly visible at the bottom right.
