Gand [Ghent]: P. F. de Goesin-Verhaeghe, 1806. 3 volumes. Vol I: (38), 266, [4], xlviii pages, Vol II: 251, [4], xli pages, Vol III: 266, [2], lviii pages. 21cm x 12cm. Full leather binding with gilt framed boards, gilt decorated and lettered spine, and blue patterned endpapers. Posthumously published first edition of this description of a fictional republic, the "Republic of the Elysian Fields," which, according to the author, corresponds to an ancient civilization of Antiquity located in the northern regions of Gaul, particularly on the islands of the Rhine. Rare, limited edition, signed by a notary. No. 387 of an unspecified total number of copies.
Rubbing, bumping, scratching, and wear to the boards and spine, and tanning to the spine. Small embossment at the top of the second flyleaf in all three volumes. Pencil markings on the front flyleaves, and on page 25 in Vol I. The footer text of the second to last page in Vol I is cut off. Vol II has some text damage at the bottom on page vii (see photo). Vol III has a tear in page 21 (see photo). The text is clear, and the binding is solid in all three volumes. Overall, a nice set in very good condition.
