Description from the seller
Mokaribune:藻刈舟 (The Algae-Harvesting Boat)
The motif known as “Mokaribune” became a symbolic subject associated with the artist Ippō.
The image depicts “Ippō cutting river algae,” which forms a pun in Japanese:
“藻を刈る一鳳(mo o karu Ippō)” sounds like “儲かる一方(mōkaru ippō),” meaning “profits keep increasing.”
Because of this auspicious wordplay, the design became popular among Osaka merchants as a charm for prosperity in business.
