Institution or teachings in the Christian religion, contained in four volumes: by Joannem Calvinum, faithfully translated from Latin and French, with Calvin's own letter to the King of France; also included is a beautiful table by Augustini Marloratie, containing the main points of the Holy Scriptures that have never been previously compiled there. A newly revised and improved edition - Amsterdam, for the Widow of Everard Cloppenburgh, 1645 - [12], 286 pages (= 572 pages) [58] [Bound with:] A supplication for the necessary reformation of the Christian church in the Papacy, presented by... Joh. Calvino, to Emperor Charles V, and all princes gathered on the Rijkdach at Spier, faithfully translated from Latin into Dutch by Car. Agric - Amsterdam, for the Widow of Everard Cloppenburgh, 1645 - (2) 21 pages (= 41 pages) (1) - half parchment.
Moderate. Gouges and impact marks, scribbles on parchment front cover. Book block loose in binding. Later endpapers and pastedowns. Label/scribble on the first endpaper. Loss in the lower corner of the title page—with loss of text. Large tear at the bottom of the first page of text, approximately 15cm. Restorations on the lower corners/margin/bottom of the side margin from the title page up to page 35, resulting in loss of text from the first six pages (the first three pages contain words, the subsequent mainly letters/footnotes), brown tape on the side margin verso of page 6. Small tears/chips on the side and/or bottom margin from the beginning up to page 42 (tapering from page 20 to page 42)—see photos. Interior browned, with some spots here and there, moisture mark in the lower margin of about 30 pages. Worm trail, 1cm, at the top inside margin of all pages of the second part 'De supplicatie...'. Some corner creases. The last register page of the second part is missing.
