Four English-language American editions of Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes, printed in Philadelphia between 1864 and 1898, with green bindings.
Description from the seller
1.- The History of Don Quixote de la Mancha. From the Spanish of Cervantes. Philadelphia: Willis P. Hazard, 1864. Half-title: The History of Don Quixote de la Mancha. [i-v], vi-viii, [1], 2-424 pp. Frontispiece, illustrated, 19 x 13,5 cm. Green cloth with gold spine lettering and decorations, top edges gilt, cream endpapers. Translation abridged version of Motteux, text identical to earlier versions by Peirce and Cornish (Lamport, 1848). With identical title design on spine to that by
Peirce. Illustrations comprise 6 of the plates previously used in the Dublin edition of
1796. All signed by artist and engraver, but unlisted and uncaptioned. Bookseller’s label of Wm. J. Park & Co., Madison, Wis. attached inside front cover, ex-library copy with printed gift label of Westminster College Library, Salt Lake City, attached inside front cover.

[1-3], 4-635, [636], [1-4*] pp. Frontispiece. 19,5 x 13,5 cm. Green cloth with gold spine lettering and decorations, black impressed decorations, brown endpapers. Frontispiece an unsigned and unattributed portrait of Cervantes. Translator not identified, probably Jarvis. Identical frontispiece and text to Derby & Jackson’s NY edition of 1859, publishers’ advertisements. Inscribed on flyleaf “Louise C. Godfrey, Christmas gift. 1879, from Peter.”
3.- Adventures of Don Quixote de la Mancha. Translated from the Spanish of Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra by Charles Jervas. Philadelphia: Porter & Coates, (1898?). [i-ii], iii-xv, [xvi], [17], 18-768 pp. 19.5 x 13,5 cm. Two frontispieces. Brown cloth with gold spine panel, gold lettering, black and impressd decorations, brown endpapers.
