Salter kitchen scale, model N. 50, produced between the 1930s and 1940s.
Body in cast iron, front plate and plate in copper.
In good overall condition with normal, slight signs of aging and wear; fully functional.
On the front plate, the following writings:
Class II - Salter's improved - Family Scale - No. 50 - Silvester's patent - to weigh 28 lbs
Salter is a British brand of household items. Founded in 1760, Salter has been developing precision products for over 260 years. It is a market leader in kitchen and bathroom scales and one of the oldest consumer brands in the United Kingdom. The company began its operations in late 1760 in the village of Bilston, England.
In 1825, it became known as George Salter & Co. George later opened a manufacturing site in the city of West Bromwich. The West Bromwich Albion football team was founded by workers from this yard. From here, the company produced a wide variety of scales, including the first bathroom scales in the UK. It is still active today.
