Today Piero has the function of export manager in the family company, Tenuta San Guido, the vineyard where Sassicaia is produced. His great passion, however, is Bodega Chacra, where he can grow the Pinot Noir grape, which he personally values very highly. During a visit to his good friend, Hans Vinding-Diers, Piero tasted a Pinot Noir from Río Negro in Patagonia, which Hans Vinding-Diers had made on an experimental basis. Here, Piero became aware that the potential for making great and unique Pinot Noir wines in Patagonia was present, and the search for the right vineyard began. In 2002 Piero found a vineyard with ungrafted Pinot Noir vines planted in 1932, Bodega Chacra was born. 2004 was Bodega Chacra's first vintage on the market.
