L' Amour du prochain by Pierre Valdagne / Lucien Métivet, an illustrated French edition from 1900, 271 pages, bound in green half-leather, published by Librairie Paul Ollendorff, in very good condition.
Description from the seller
Very fine copy of this collection of pieces given by Pierre Valdagne, a pen name of Lucien Louis (1854-1937), published the same year as the original edition (1900) with a mention of a third edition.
Enriched with numerous illustrations in the text by Lucien Métivet (1863-1932).
Bound in a fine half-maroquin binding in olive green, with a smooth spine decorated with a lovely design of scrollwork and gilded tools, with gilded borders and title. Covers preserved (without the spine), the first illustrated in color.
In very good condition. Well-made binding with minor rubbing at the corners and a scratch on the second cover. The edition paper is normally yellowed, free of foxing, with handwritten notes in pencil on one page.
Provenance: handwritten ex-libris and stamp with the initials of André Barrier.
Lucien Louis, known by the pen name Pierre Valdagne (born Charles-Lucien Louis in Paris on May 3, 1854, and died January 31, 1937, in Paris 17th arrondissement), was a French novelist and playwright. He joined the Ollendorff publishing house as a literary director in 1886. From then on, Paul Ollendorff was his first publisher.
Valdagne enjoyed some success as a playwright in Paris and abroad at the end of the 19th century and the very beginning of the 20th century.
