Description from the seller
A beautiful typical Piet Bouersch painting of a sheepfold with sheep, just as he has painted so often. The painting shows some craquelé in spots, but it is not really distracting. It is framed in a beautiful deep classical frame.
Pieter Adrianus Bouter was a Dutch painter best known for his atmospheric interiors, genre scenes, and still lifes. His work belongs to the tradition of Dutch painting, where homeliness, light effects, and craftsmanship are central.
Pieter Adrianus Bouter was born on March 19, 1887, in Gouda. Relatively little is documented about his formal education, but it is believed that he received artistic training along the lines of the academic painting tradition that was popular in the Netherlands in the early 20th century. From a young age, he developed a strong sense of composition and a preference for intimate scenes from everyday life.
Around 1910–1920, Bouter began actively exhibiting and gained recognition within the Dutch art world. He worked in various cities, but especially The Hague played a central role in his career. Like many painters from this region, he was inspired by light falling in domestic interiors, a subject previously explored by the Hague School and the older Dutch masters.
Bouter’s paintings often carry a nostalgic and idyllic tone. He idealized Dutch family life and played on the international demand for 'typically Dutch' scenes.
Pieter Adrianus Bouter remained actively painting until old age. He died on January 6, 1968, in The Hague.
It is painted in oil paint on canvas. The canvas itself measures 30x40 cm (height x width).
