Biography of Bernat Sanjuan Tarré (Barcelona, 1915 – Deià, 1979)
He was a Catalan painter and sculptor. Skilled in depicting Mediterranean landscapes, he is also the author of excellent portraits and still lifes. In the 1950s, he traveled to France, where he met Picasso. A French art critic called him 'le peintre décembre rouges,' due to his use of the color red.
During the sixties and seventies, he participated in several solo and group exhibitions. His paintings and sculptures can be seen in various locations across Catalonia, Mallorca, and Spain. The most recent exhibitions of his work took place in Barcelona in 2008 (solo exhibition) and 2012 (group exhibition). Many of his works belong to private collections in Europe and the United States. Sanjuan developed his own techniques in the field of 'camera-less photography' (based on the direct manipulation of photographic film), some of which remain unknown due to his death. He also made contributions to sacred art with paintings, sculptures, ceramics, and stained glass, and in book illustration: for example, he illustrated the Spanish edition of 'The Fountain' ('El Manantial') by Ayn Rand.
